Hello 5th Grade students! Welcome to 5th Grade English. This is a wiki page on which I will post homework assignments and upload important documents. 1. Finish your personal narrative. You must have over 1 page.
To parents: Parents, I am a mom and understand that homework tonight is problematic. I would love tonight to be about Halloween and I will be taking my own son out tonight. Please know that if your child does need more time to complete his or her personal narrative tonight, that means that he/she did not use their class time well. I gave them almost the whole period to write today and they had plenty of time to do their work.

For Thursday, November 2nd:
1.Make a decision of whether you will revise and edit your personal narrative or your creative writing.

For Monday, November 6th:
1. Complete your 2nd draft of your personal narrative or your creative writing. You must hand in on Monday 3 pieces of paper - your rough draft, your 2nd draft and your editing sheet.
2. Bring an independent book.


Week of October 23rd

For Tuesday, October 24th:
1. Complete story map for My Side of the Mountain.
2. Bring an independent book to read at the beginning of class.

For Wednesday, October 25th:
1. Complete the following sections of the study: Signposts, Personal Narratives and Dialogue
2. Test on Thursday on the 1st Quarter.

For Thursday, October 26th:
1.Study for your test on the first quarter.

For Friday, October 27th:
1. Bring an independent book to read at the beginning of class.

For Monday, October 30th:
1. Take home your creative writing journal. Read over all the entries. Decide which entry you want to turn into a published piece. For something to be a published piece, you will edit and revise it to improve it's content and writing. Come to school with a piece of paper that has the following information:
1. What is the date of the piece you want to work on to publish?
2. Why did you choose this piece? Give your reasons for choosing this piece?

Week of October 17th:

1.Read chapter 2 of My Side of the Mountain. Make at least two Notice and Note annotations. Remember, to do a Notice and Note annotations, you must do 3 things:
1. underline the passage.
2. Identify the signpost
3. Answer the corresponding question.

1. Write in your creative writing journal for 20 minutes. Make sure you date is as September 30th.

Week of September 18th:.

For Tuesday, September 19th:
1.Write a paragraph describing your life as a speller. The first line of the paragraph should be "I am a speller." Put an adjective on that line. Then, write 3 or 4 describing why are that kind of speller. Include details like whether you have been in a spelling bee, how you study for spelling quizzes or whether you use a dictionary to look up words.
2. Bring an IR book.

For Wednesday, September 20th:
1. In your creative writing journal, write a story beginning with the following line: "I found myself alone in the woods." Write for 20 minutes and then stop.

For Thursday, September 21st:
1. Find a passage from a book that you know well that shows one of the Notice and Note signposts (annotations). Write the passage on a piece of paper. Unless the part of the passage that shows the signpost. Then, identify the signpost and answer the question.

For Friday, September 22nd:
1. Begin reading and annotating chapters= 1 of My Side of the Mountain. You must make at least two annotations per chapter.

For Monday, September 23rd:
1. Bring an independent book to read.

1. Bring two books (An independent book and Ninth Ward).

For Wednesday, September 13th:
1. Fill out the character sheet for Ninth Ward. You will need the book to do your homework.

1. Write a list of all the possible conflicts (both internal and external).

1. Quiz on Ninth Ward and Escape from Escape from Mr Lemoncello's Library. Study your story maps.
